Detained female immigrant to Border Patrol agent:

To any border patrol agent willing to listen,

What happens after I leave the detention center? Will I ever leave this wretched place? Will I stay or be forced to leave? I cannot help but constantly wonder – my passage was for nothing. I have no family in the states, I carry nothing but a small bag of my belongings, and I am scared of what will become of my family if I cannot work in the United States. America has always been but a faraway dream, a place of hope and opportunity for the oppressed and disillusioned. It was a safe castle worth risking anything and everything for. But here in McAllen, I have not seen any of the opportunities I fought for. I have seen stone walls, been greeted with shackles, and treated like but a nameless animal. I plead that you do not turn a blind eye to this inhumanity; it is not normal. Like you, I am a human with family and friends that depend on me.
